Specialty Dry Goods
Specialty Dry Goods is an indie label that focuses on making responsible choices with a preference to recycle manufacturers unused materials and surplus into a useful product of good design and style - a new classic saved from the landfill.
Specialty Dry Goods utilizes a range of materials such as natural cotton canvas and denim surplus, vegetable tanned hide, organic wool fill (remnants from sustainable practice furniture maker, EKLA HOME) and leather remnant. Unique patterns and details are hand sewn using linen or alpaca yarns. All materials are hand selected and sewn by Edie Kahula Pereira - designer, maker, and proprietress.
Edie was born and raised in the Hawaiian islands. Graduating with a Bachelor of Science, Edie moved on to fashion in retail sales & management for Nordstrom and Emporio Armani. While studying for her masters degree in architecture, Edie worked as a consulting fashion scout for Isetan Japan, Singapore & Kuala Lumpur.
Deciding to leave architecture after 8 years, Edie worked for Los Angeles based product development company Artecnica.
Through their Design with Conscience program, she had the opportunity to work with Colombian artisan potters in the village of La Chamba and international designers such as Tord Boontje and Estudio Campana.
Edie has also curated sustainability-themed art & product pop up exhibitions (in Los Angeles & New York) for sustainable lifestyle platform shft.com founders Adrian Grenier & Peter Glatzer. Edie loves to photo-document her life in Los Angeles and cultural travels to lands far away.
